On April 2, 1935, Barbados began a quiet but transformative journey in broadcasting with the introduction of a wired radio distribution system in Wildey, St. Michael. This early service delivered audio directly into homes and public spaces, connecting Barbadians to global events such as the 1935 Silver Jubilee of King George V.
Despite setbacks, including a major fire in 1938, the system expanded across the island and evolved into Rediffusion in 1951, later becoming a central force in Barbados’ media landscape. By 1970, it served over 26,000 subscribers and introduced additional services like television rentals.
The Barbados Agricultural Reporter, reported that a boatman from St.Michael appeared before acting Magistrate Lynch accused of stealing a Jacket.
