On March 30, 2020, Barbados lost one of its most celebrated jockeys, Venice “Poppy” Richards, who passed away at age 76. Born in Carrington Village, Richards rose to prominence early, winning his first race at 18 and securing multiple jockey championships by the late 1960s.
