The Barbados Advocate reported that Barbados recorded one of its best flying fish seasons ever in May 1950, with 154,495 pounds landed. The largest single-day catch reached 21,460 pounds, and flying fish made up more than 84% of all fish sold at the public market, highlighting its importance to the island's economy and diet.
