On March 16, 2021, Barbados mourned the passing of Sir Courtney Blackman, the first and longest-serving Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados, whose leadership was pivotal in shaping the island’s modern economy. Appointed at just 39, he oversaw key milestones including the introduction of the Barbados dollar in 1973 and its stabilizing peg to the US dollar in 1975.
