Show Notes

The Barbadian reported on a heated debate in the House of Assembly over whether John Innes, representative for St. Michael, had forfeited his seat after being absent from the island for more than 40 days without leave, in breach of the 1845 Franchise Act. Samuel Jackman Prescod, the first non-white elected member of the House, moved for a writ to replace Innes, arguing the law was clear.
