The Barbadian reported on the death of an apprenticed labourer following a violent confrontation with a mounted policeman in St. Philip. The altercation occurred after the labourer escaped while being returned to his master and was subsequently pursued. During the ensuing struggle, the policeman fatally wounded him with a bayonet, claiming self-defence. Following a coroner’s inquest and examination of the circumstances, a jury returned a verdict of justifiable homicide.
