Born in Christ Church, Barbados, Douglas Davis, better known as Doug E. Fresh, became a pioneering figure in hip-hop and one of its best-known human beatbox performers. After moving to New York as a child, he rose to prominence with the Get Fresh Crew and classics including The Show and La Di Da Di. His influence later extended into public health through Hip Hop Public Health. In 2026, UWI Cave Hill is set to award him an honorary degree recognising his contributions to culture and public health.
